Northampton County Welcomes Linde Inc.

Written by:   wildfire

April 2026—Governor Josh Stein recently announced Linde Inc. will invest more than $75 million to build a stand-alone air separation facility in Northampton County’s Commerce Park, located in Garysburg. The project, in partnership with numerous organizations including Northampton County Economic Development, North Carolina Department of Commerce and the Economic Development Partnership of North Carolina, the North Carolina General Assembly, Commerce’s Division of Workforce Solutions, North Carolina Community College System, GoldenLEAF Foundation, and Dominion Energy, not only will bring new well-paying jobs to the community, but acts as an anchor to attract additional companies to the county.

Derrick Bennett, Director of Economic Development, said, “We have written another chapter that’s about more than just capital investment and job creation. This tells the story of collaboration, partnership, and progress.” The Department of Economic Development has had a strategic focus on industrial development since his tenure, laying the foundation to attract growth.

Linde Inc., a global company employing more than 65,000 people, has its US operations headquartered in Connecticut. The Northampton facility will take atmospheric air and separate it into its main components: oxygen, nitrogen, and argon. Those gases are then sent to other industries, including healthcare, food preservation, and advanced manufacturing. It will take about two years for the facility to be built, staffed, and fully operational.

Linde Inc. has received international accolades for their environmental and ethical business practices, including Fortune World’s Most Admired Companies for investment value, quality of management, and social responsibility, the FTSEFGood Index Series for strong environmental, social, and governance practices, and the Terra Cotta Seal for prioritizing ethical business practices and creating environmental sustainability.

Bennett added, “The economic development team is committed to finding the right fit for Northampton County, and we couldn’t ask for a better partner than Linde. Their environmental practices protect our natural resources, their business practices create safe jobs with fair salaries and benefits, and their commitment to give back to the community makes them an ideal business for Northampton County.”

Todd Lawson, Linde’s Vice President, East Region, said, “Linde is committed to serving the needs of our customers and to grow in the U.S. We chose this location based on its proximity to customers and the support of Northampton County. Linde’s presence in the area extends our strong merchant gases supply network to increase our ability to reliably serve our customers’ current and future needs.”

“Linde’s decision to build in Northampton County validates the community’s resilience and strength,” said N.C. Commerce Secretary Lee Lilley. “Companies like Linde grow the supply chain of our thriving life sciences ecosystem, and when they choose rural North Carolina, they affirm North Carolina’s position as the best place for business in every corner of the state.”

Ed Martin, Chairman of the Northampton County Board of Commissioners, concluded, “We’re witnessing a new chapter in the story of Northampton County.”
